Only Jesus, My Savior
Text: Hebrews 1:1–3
Introduction: Questions Raised in an Age of Religious Pluralism
Today we live in an era where religious pluralism is taken for granted. Many people ask, “What makes the Christian faith superior to other religions?” “Why must we believe only in Jesus?” “Don’t all religions ultimately lead to the same truth?” These are not only the questions of non-Christians but also real concerns for many churchgoers. What does the Bible say about these issues? Especially in Hebrews, we find a clear and faith-centered answer through the identity and ministry of Jesus Christ.
1. The Reality of the Old Testament Is Jesus Christ
The Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms recorded in the Old Testament are all divinely inspired Scriptures. Within them are revelations of the Creator God, the sacrificial system for atonement, and instructions for living as the people of God. However, Hebrews makes it clear: all the laws and sacrificial systems are but shadows pointing to the true substance—Jesus Christ.
The risen Jesus Himself explained this to the disciples on the road to Emmaus, using the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms to show that the Christ had to suffer and then enter into His glory. When we read the Old Testament only literally, without the illumination of the Holy Spirit, God may appear harsh and fearsome. But with the Spirit’s insight, we see God’s mercy and love revealed through Jesus Christ.
2. Jesus Is the Son of God and the Creator
Most religions acknowledge the existence of a deity. But Jesus called the Almighty God “Father” and referred to Himself as the “Son.” This is not a metaphor but a unique and divine declaration: “The Father is in the Son, and the Son is in the Father.” In other words, the Father and the Son are one.
When Philip asked Jesus to show them the Father, Jesus replied, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” And He said, “Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me.” Who is this Jesus? He is “the Son of God who created all things,” “the one who sustains all things by His powerful word,” “the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being.” Nothing was made without Him, and everything exists for Him.
Therefore, Jesus is not merely a moral teacher or the founder of a religion. He is the Creator from the beginning, the Redeemer, and the living God who still works today.
The risen Lord chose the Church to be His body to proclaim the gospel to the world. The Church is one with Jesus Christ. Though the risen Jesus has a spiritual body invisible to the world, we can perceive Him when our spiritual eyes are opened. Just as He testified about Himself through the Scriptures, He now reveals Himself through the Church.
The Bible proclaims this gospel truth clearly: Titus 2:14 says, “…who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.” And 2 Corinthians 5:15 says, “…and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.”
These Scriptures show us that we are to live as one with the Lord—not for ourselves but for Him who saved us, doing good works so the world may know that Jesus is truly our God and Savior.
3. The Incarnate Jesus Is the Only Way of Salvation
Why do so many still fail to believe that Jesus is God? It is because He came in human flesh. Hebrews 2:9 states, “But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.”
Jesus became human to taste death for all. Humans are made of flesh and blood, but flesh and blood cannot inherit the imperishable kingdom of God. To enter God’s kingdom, we must have a spiritual body, which requires us to be born again of the Spirit—to become a new creation. To understand this, we must grasp what the Bible teaches about sin and death.
Humanity disobeyed God’s Word, and that disobedience became sin. Because of sin, death entered the world. In the Bible, death is not merely the cessation of breath but eternal separation from God’s presence, judgment, and destruction.
Physical death is not the end—it is the transition from the corruptible body to the incorruptible. Without this knowledge, people fear death as the final end and live by their desires, becoming slaves to sin. Into this reality of sin and death, Jesus came to reveal the truth. He became our brother in flesh and blood, tasted death though He was sinless, and overcame death through His resurrection. His resurrection is our hope. Like Him, we will put off the perishable and put on the imperishable, living forever in God’s kingdom.
The Lord has prepared an eternal kingdom—a new heaven and a new earth—and invites believers to live with Him. Those who believe in this truth no longer live as slaves to sin but abide in Christ and reveal His presence through a life of love.
Conclusion: It Is Clear That There Is No Salvation Outside of Jesus
God raised Jesus and made Him the head of the Church, giving Him the name above every name so that every knee in heaven, on earth, and under the earth should bow before Him. Yet many still reject His rule and live as their own masters.
Jesus died for all so that we might no longer live for ourselves but for Him who died and rose again for us. He created us, sustains us, and calls each person to a new purpose and direction. His call is that we remain in Him and live a life of love.
Our Lord is love. “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” (1 Corinthians 13:4–7). And again: “Love covers a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8), and “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good” (Romans 12:9).
When we receive Jesus, this love is made manifest in our lives. This love is the evidence that Christ lives in us and that we are truly His redeemed people.
Hebrews 2:1–3 warns us, “How shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation?” Everyone is destined to die once, and after that comes judgment. For those who believe in Jesus, there awaits the rest of heaven, eternal life, and glorious fellowship with God. But for those who do not believe and do evil, there awaits the fire of judgment.
Putting all of this together, we arrive at one clear conclusion: Only Jesus Christ is our Savior, and there is no salvation apart from Him. Only His blood cleanses us from sin, and only His resurrection secures eternal life. We are a people purchased with His blood, and Jesus Christ is my Lord, my Savior, and my life. Therefore, Jesus is not merely the object of my faith but the reason for my being and my eternal hope. Amen.
Now we must respond to this message. Let us confess our faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and resolve to follow Him alone.
Let us pray together:
Lord, we stand before Your Word at this moment.
In a world of many so-called paths,
I believe that only Jesus is the true way, the truth, and the life.
Jesus, You are my Savior.
You died for me on the cross
and rose again to open the way to eternal life.
Lord, be the Lord of my life.
No longer will I live for myself,
but for You who died and rose again on my behalf.
May Your love be revealed through my life.
Help me to live as Your people, zealous for good works. Now, the reason for my existence is only Jesus.
Be my faith, my confession, and my hope.
In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen.
